JESSICA'S STORY
I grew up in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia on a winding road that twisted and dipped through the rolling hills of farmland. That backroad was an accurate depiction of my inner world of insecurities and overthinking as a child. The place I found a deep sense of belonging was with my extended family on my Grandmother’s farm. After pursuing music in Nashville and then New Jersey, I made my way back home to Virginia to my grandmother's farmhouse in 2019. She had passed away at 101 and I was afforded the opportunity to take care of the house that had taken care of our family for generations. I spent the pandemic there, writing songs about what I had learned from my grandparents well-lived lives. It was a season of reconnecting with my family roots and blooming in new ways, so Dogwood Tree, the state tree and flower of Virginia was the perfect title for this sentimental project.
